Everything you need to know about lessons, tests, payments/refunds and more.
  • How do I secure/pay for my lesson package?

The website does not have a payment gateway.

So, to start things off, please reach out to me by:

    • Clicking the “book a lesson” button and completing the student intake form [most preferred method],
    • Sending through a message from the Contact Us page,
    • Emailing your query, or
    • Phoning me directly (note: if I don’t pick up, just leave a voicemail)

Once we’ve settled on a particular package – be it lessons only or lessons plus test – and a start date, I will then issue you an invoice containing payment instructions.

It’ll have my BSB and account number on it, as well as my payID. I also accept cash payments.

  • I live just outside your work radius. Is there some way I can still do lessons through GDS?

    Yes,

If you are able to meet me somewhere within the work radius, (and conclude lessons this way), then I am happy to take you on as a student 🙂

It is possible that after receiving repeat expressions of interests from a particular suburb – not currently within my work radius – that I will eventually include it within my radius.

However, at this time, I am only accepting new students who live in, or able to meet me/conclude lessons, within the suburbs and boundaries listed at the bottom of the About Us page.

  • Do I need to have any driving experience before undertaking my first lesson?

    No, this isn’t necessary.

It’ll just mean that we start out with the basics of getting familiar with the controls and handling of the vehicle etc., and taking it from there.

Before long, watch your confidence, skill level and ability grow exponentially!

My students range from total beginners, to those with 100+ hours of driving practice.

I also take on overseas students, looking to convert their OS licence to Victorian, as well as middle aged men and women looking to get their license for the very first time!

  • What does a typical driving lesson entail?

As a general rule, I endeavor to cover as many different driving elements as possible, within the time allotted, giving consideration to your:

    (i) experience level,
(ii) what has been covered in previous lessons, and
(iii) ironing out any areas needing improvement

The focus is foremost on building as wide a skill set/foundation as possible, which is why we won’t be spending the bulk of a lesson going on simple, straight drives; as the value from doing these is only so much.

I plan each lesson in advance, such that we encounter new and challenging driving tasks.
I trust you’ll find clear benefit from every lesson and the progression in your skills will be self-evident.

  • Do you go out to every VicRoads office for testing?

Generally, the only VicRoads offices I attend for testing are:

    – Heatherton,
    – Frankston,
    – Dandenong, and
    – Ringwood.

  • I'm ready to do my drive test. Should I just go online and book it?

Assuming you want to utilize the instruction vehicle to do the test in, do ensure:

    i. I’m available to attend your test, (give me a quick call to confirm),
ii. That it will be at one of the VicRoads offices I go to for testing,
iii. That you have a test inclusive package already, (or otherwise happy to make the extra payment to make it such). [see Pricing page for details],
iv. That you meet, or will meet, the prerequisites for undertaking a drive test, including passing the hazard perception test. Refer to VicRoads’ website for more on this,

Just know, there can be lengthy wait times for drive tests. Therefore, plan ahead.

  • Why don’t you offer the option of a 1 lesson and test package?

It takes time to develop drivers to the standard that I would like to see them get to.

In life, there is no elevator to the top, you’ve got to take the stairs.

Based on that principle, I avoid taking on new students right before they are due to do a drive test, except in exceptional circumstances.

I firmly believe that instructors and driving schools who routinely do this are setting a bad example and this becomes more a disservice to a student, than the proper provision of a service.

  • Am I able to utilize my own vehicle for a drive test?

Yes, but please check with VicRoads that you understand the requirements.

Generally speaking, the car needs to have:

    – A regular handbrake (not a push button or foot brake),
    – All lights working, i.e. indicators, brake lights, headlights etc.
    – Be in a roadworthy condition, i.e. including, but not limited to, tires pumped up, and no unaddressed/outstanding issues with the car (e.g. engine error light showing).

Of course, if you so choose, you can utilize the instruction vehicle, that we do our lessons in, for your test; though this needs to be organized beforehand. See “Instructor Test” section of the Pricing page for details.

  • Do you offer refunds?

Yes, though the amount refunded will depend on how far along you are into your package.

    Refunds on lessons

If your lesson package hasn’t yet started, i.e. you’ve paid but not yet had your first lesson, I will refund 95% of what you’ve originally paid.

If you are more than half way into a lesson package and then advise you wish to discontinue/end the package early, then I will refund 90% of the value of the unused lessons.

If you have completed less than or equal to 50% of the lesson package, (including downgrades to your package, say from an 8-lesson to a 4-lesson package), then the difference will be refunded in full.

Refunds on Instructor Tests (IT) or Instructor Re-tests (IRT)

As outlined towards the bottom of the Pricing page,

If you paid for an IT or IRT, and subsequently decide to cancel the booking, a refund equivalent to 2/3 (two-thirds) of the relevant test charge will be made.
